Hōhonu - deepening Te Ao Māori within Aotearoa New Zealand’s environmental restoration work

Te Ao Māori was the first lore of environmental caretaking in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We can think about deepening our experience with Te Ao Māori as layered and continually expanding. The relationship is not finite or ever complete.

This report identifies several indicators for those in environmental restoration kaupapa to consider and assess the depths of how Te Ao Māori is influencing their environmental work. These indicators are outlined in a new tool called Hōhonu.

E rua ngā kaupapa matua o Hōhonu

 

The two main objectives of Hōhonu are to:
1. Create positive impacts for the environment
2. Strengthen partnerships between Māori and Pākehā.

I hangaia a Hōhonu hei tautoko i te hunga tiaki taiaoHōhonu was developed to support those working in environmental stewardship, and specifically environmental restoration, to consider the skills, knowledge and awareness needed to embrace Te Ao Māori. Hōhonu allows environmental restoration projects to understand how deeply they are integrating with Te Ao Māori
